Sobers’ practice explores the intersections of Black identity, pop culture, and media aesthetics. Centred on portraiture, her work combines analogue and digital techniques to produce vibrant images that reimagine the visual languages of fashion, advertising, and audiovisual culture. Her portraits challenge conventional representations of racialised bodies in mainstream media, instead proposing empowered Black figures who claim space with presence, style, and sensitivity.
Alongside her artistic practice, Sobers develops curatorial projects focused on the cultural production of the African diaspora, creating spaces for visibility and critical reflection. Her work operates at the intersection of image, identity, and the politics of representation, seeking to expand the visual repertoire of what it means to be—and to look—Black today.
